A 22 year old woman in Iran has died after getting beaten by the local police for "breaking" a hijab code-law. Police denied her death and blamed it to a heart attack. It happened on September 13, 2022.
The police version of the act was that she was arrested by the Guidance Patrol. After arresting her in front of her brother, they told him that they were going to release her 1 hour later. Instead, she was transported to a hospital because "she had a heart attack" .
But the true version that others believe is the mother's: she explained that she was beaten by the police with nightsticks in front of her brother. Meanwhile, they sprayed her brother's face with pepper spray. Then, they hit the woman's skull and she got knocked out. She died in the hospital later.
Beacuse of her death, a lot of demonstrations started in Iran: (They began after her funeral)
- A lot of women took off their hijabs in her honor.
- The Iranian television was hacked and they sent death threats to the Supreme Leader.
- Around 1000 people blocked the main road marching in her name.
- Police irrupted in a university to arrest students that protested against her death. A video was leaked in which students tried to escape while gunshots could be heared.
